What’s Special about Ving Tsun

Straight forward and economical, Ving Tsun never wastes movement or time, which is why it is nicknamed “Lighting Fist” in Hong Kong.

Since it prefers to redirect incoming forces, rather than block them with force on force, Ving Tsun is a perfect style for women or men who may be smaller than their opponents. This responsiveness is developed through constant practice in Chi Sao, a hands-on interaction with another person.

Ving Tsun uses a few simple and logical principles in its fighting strategy, such as

-The shortest (and fastest) distance between two points is a straight line

-The centerline (the plane between the center of your body and the center of the opponents body) is key. Control the centerline and strike along the centerline.

-Do two (or three) things at once, rather than one at a time.

-Receive what comes, follow what leaves, strike when open.

These simple principles are behind every Ving Tsun technique and form, and develop a style of combat that is creative, fluid and extremely fast.

Training

Siu Lim Tao(Little Thought)

-Is the first boxing set (form) that teaches us the usage of energy, centerline, and hand positions(tan, fook, wu, ect...)

Chum Kiu(Seeking Bridge)

-Second boxing set teaches us to cordinate our hand and foot movements to work in unison as well as changing the center line.  It also teaches how to borrow an opponents force.

Biu Tze(Thrusting Fingers)

-Third boxing set focuses on energy and returning the center once it has been taken.

Mook Yan Jong(The Wooden Dummy)

-Teaches us to put the movement  from the form together into a wooden partner to develop power and position.

Luk Dim Phoon Kwon(6 1/2 Point Pole)

-The 8-9ft long pole used to develope strength in the stance, elbow, and wrist.

Baht Chum Dao(8 Cutting Blade)

-Is the most advanced stage.  It teaches the advanced foot work and helps with generating power in the wrist and elbow.

Chi Sau and Chi Gyurk(Sticking Hands and Sticking Legs)

-A training excersize used to controll the opponents energy, working for offensive and deffensive techniques.
